OOH-RAH Seasoning was founded by retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Joseph “Gunz” Simmons deep in the heart of Texas. After 20+ years of serving his country, Gunz discovered that one mission never truly ends: bringing people together through good food, good company, and strong comradery.
Throughout his Marine Corps career and family life, Gunz became known for his weekend barbecues, backyard smoke sessions, and holiday feasts — feeding Marines, neighbors, friends, and anyone who needed a warm meal and a place to belong. Flavor became a way to build community, boost morale, and create memories.
After retiring, Gunz felt the itch to serve again — this time through a different kind of firepower.
He set out to build a line of bold, small-batch, mission-ready seasonings crafted for everyday cooks, weekend warriors, and hardcore grillers alike.

Meet the Founder — Joseph “Gunz” Simmons, Gunnery Sergeant, USMC (Ret.)
Joseph “Gunz” Simmons is a retired United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant with over 20 years of honorable service and more than three decades of leadership, administration, and mission execution at the highest levels of the Department of Defense.
Before launching OOH-RAH Seasoning, Gunz served as a Senior Executive Assistant and Acting Chief of Staff to the Program Manager of a multi-billion-dollar naval strategic systems program, supporting a workforce of more than 285 personnel. His responsibilities ranged from executive coordination and organizational management to leading major command events and ensuring mission success under pressure. He previously managed administrative and financial operations for Marine Corps commands of 1,200+ personnel, served overseas during Operation Enduring Freedom, and earned numerous awards for excellence, leadership, and service.
But long before the titles and medals, Gunz was known for something else: Feeding people.
From barracks cookouts to promotion parties, holiday meals to morale nights, Gunz used food as a way to bring Marines, family, and friends together. His grill, smoker, and kitchen became places where stories were shared, spirits were lifted, and community was built.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Gunz felt called to serve in a new way — one that blended his love of cooking with his commitment to connection and comradery. The result was OOH-RAH Seasoning, a line of bold, small-batch, handcrafted blends made for the everyday cook, the backyard pitmaster, and the holiday feast commander alike.

Meet the Co-Founder — Michele “Chief” Pittard, Chief Petty Officer, USN (Ret.)
Michele “Chief” Pittard is a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer with over 20 years of leadership, cybersecurity management, IT operations, and high-stakes program support across multiple commands around the world. Throughout her Navy career, Chief excelled in roles that demanded precision, discipline, and unwavering accountability — qualities she now brings directly into the heart of OOH-RAH Seasoning.
After transitioning from active duty, Chief continued serving the Navy as a senior logistics and technical documentation analyst for the Columbia Class Submarine Program, the Navy’s highest-priority strategic acquisition effort. In her role, she supports senior government leadership, guided engineering teams, managing critical documentation processes, and acting as the Logistics Technical Documentation Manager during extended periods — a testament to her trust, credibility, and leadership.
Chief’s operational experience includes overseeing cybersecurity workforce operations for 450+ personnel worldwide, supervising communications centers across the Pacific theater, and leading large teams of IT specialists through mission-critical operations. Her expertise in coordination, quality assurance, and process development now strengthens the backbone of OOH-RAH Seasoning’s business operations.
At OOH-RAH, Chief keeps the mission on course — ensuring logistics run smoothly, orders flow efficiently, and customers receive the same excellence she demanded in uniform. She is the steady hand behind the scenes, the systems expert, the organizer, and the co-leader who helps transform a veteran-owned idea into a fully functioning small business.
Together, Gunz and Chief bring over 40 years of combined military leadership into a brand built on service, family, discipline, and outstanding flavor.
